Christian Louboutin Takes On Beauty!

21 May

Ask and ye shall receive…

Well, I really didn’t ask, but this news is amazingly fabulous!  Famed Paris-based shoe designer Christian Louboutin is bringing stiletto sexy to beauty department’s across the country with his own line of luxury cosmetics – Christian Louboutin Beauté .  Let’s hope Monsieur Louboutin does not make us pay nearly as much for red lips as he does for red soles. Let’s face it, a pair of modest priced Louboutins costs between the $500 to $700 range. Can you imagine paying $150 for a tube of lip paint? I think not. Well…maybe.

While he remains tight-lipped on the particulars, beauty enthusiasts everywhere can expect an array of products such as lipstick to eye shadow and maybe perfume. One thing is for certain, I’m sure the line up will include the perfect shade of red.

Imagine the possibilities…

Mission Impossible? Moisturized Curls [OPTIMUM Moisturizer Product Review]

3 May

This ish just got real! Not really, but I was mysteriously moved to type that! :)

Let’s face it; my curls have the potential to be as dry as the Sahara! Ugh! Grrr! I totally hate it! And since I am a busy mother of 3, I need/want/ must have simple, quick, and easy hair do’ options that not only make me feel fabulous, but look fabulous as well. So…about a month ago, I decided against straightening my naturally curly hair – unless straight hair Secret Service Agents storm my bathroom door with a flat-iron in hand – and rock my tresses natural on a daily basis. The end result: One big, fat curly bun!

I like it, and am getting a lot of positive feed back from others. I visited the mall yesterday to do a little window shopping retail therapy and the cashier behind the counter at the Michael Kors store was basically staring a hole through me!  My outfit was nothing to be excited about, and my make up was average, so perhaps I had a boogie or something. As it turns out, she was admiring my hair! Score! She said “I love your natural hair. It’s just beautiful.” Needless to say I left the store feeling just shy of amaZing.

Anyways, my go-to products to achieve this look are, Aussie Moist 3 Minute Deeeeep (yes, it is actually spelled with that many e’s) CHI Keratin Mist, One ‘n Only Argan Oil Curl Cream which is available at Sally’s, and olive oil. This hair cocktail worked for about a month, but now not so much. Since I am not flat ironing, I believe my hair texture is changing – it’s becoming thicker and it needs more moisture!  And since keeping black hair well moisturized is an absolute must, I began my search for a new daily moisturizer.  Guest what I found?!

A new whipped oil moisturizer by OPTIMUM care! *cheers* It claims to have ‘instant breakage protection + superior softness and shine benefits’ – both of which I am in need of. This lightweight moisturizer can be used on wet or dry hair, but I will most likely use it on wet/damp/towel dried hair because … well, I like applying my moisturizer this way.

So I washed, deep conditioned, and towel dried my hair. Then, I sprayed CHI Keratin mist evenly throughout my hair, and then I apply the OPTIMUM moisturizer. Long story short: I like it, but I am not madly in love with this product. It has a tendency to be greasy – even when applied to damp hair, and a little bit goes a looooong way. I definitely could not use this everyday simply because the build up would be horrendous. I will most likely finish the bottle, but I probably will not purchase it again.

Back to the drawing board I go… :(

This quotation is quite funny, but is it true? Must one withhold information to gain or maintain success?

Celebrity Beauty Quote: Jennifer Lopez

24 Mar

‘It’s important for all types of women to know that you don’t have to fit a prototype of what one person thinks is beautiful in order to be beautiful or feel beautiful…. People think, Sexy, big breasts, curvy body, no cellulite. It’s not that. Take the girl at the beach with the cellulite legs, wearing her bathing suit the way she likes it, walking with a certain air, comfortable with herself. That woman is sexy. Then you see the perfect girl who’s really thin, tugging at her bathing suit, wondering how her hair looks. That’s not sexy.’

Olay Cleaning System – Review/Photos

31 Jan Olay Review Photo 1 edit

Achieving a super clean face is a lot easier said than done. I’ve always relied on my handy-dandy wash cloth, but I felt as though, better yet – I knew there was a much better way to clean my skin. Being an everyday make up wearer, and a moderate acne sufferer, I know the importance of a clean face all too well.

So, after viewing many commercials for the clarasonic systems I thought, “The beauty gods have heard me, Brava!” Then I  decided to go online and check out the price. Ummm, NO! Apparently the beauty gods were not listening well. Two hundred and twenty-five dollars is a bit steep even though women everywhere were going ga-ga over this little doohickey. I was a bit bummed out until another company hijacked the idea and is now selling it for a reasonable price. Enter Olay! At $29.99, even if I was not completely happy with the product, would not feel bad for buying it. Because after all, I spend more on lip gloss!

The box includes:

  1. A spin brush
  2. A  6.8 ouch tube of Pro X exfoliating  renewal cleanser
  3. AA batteries (how generous)*

*Photo of the batteries not included for obvious reasons :)

Its promise:

  1. To clean skin 6 times better than basic cleaning. By basic I assume this means hands-to-face washing.

My verdict:

After an uber short deliberation, I found that this product is guilty of what it claims – to clean skin [6 times] better than normal washing. Now of course I am not sure if my skin is 6 times cleaner, but it feels cleaner and softer using this device rather than a wash cloth or my hands.

As for the exfoliating renewal cleanser – Meh… It isn’t anything special in my opinion. I decided to use one of my favorite face cleaners instead – Neutrogena Clear Pore cleanser/mask. It worked wonders and left my skin feeling very clean and tingly.

Bought it. Tried it. LOVE it!

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deeeeep Conditioner

2 Jan

In my pursuit for great conditioners, I have stumbled upon what I believe to be the greatest drugstore-brand deep conditioner EVER! Well, maybe, of the moment.

In the past, Joico has been my go-to conditioner for deep conditioning treatments and co-washes.  I have naturally curly, brassiere length hair and until now, Joico was the only conditioner I could rely on to soften my curls and leave my hair fluffy and manageable. And since I wash my hair about 3 times per week, #sweat head; I usually buy a liter of the stuff each month.

The only issue is the liters can be costly if not on sale. At almost $30 dollars a pop, I now resent buying a liter or two each month because I knew “deeeeep” down inside my beauty soul there was another conditioner-for-less just as good as Joico. So after internet searching for top rated drug store brand conditioners, I cyber-stumbled across a hair blog called Keep It Simple Sista.   The owner, Traycee, has beautiful waist length hair and contributes her rapunzel-like length retention on conditioning several times a week. My own personal hair length goal is middle back length, so I am willing to try almost anything to keep my hair healthy and happy while retaining as much length as possible.

Sadly, I do not have any pictures to show you all, (I will get better at this – promise), but I can tell you that this conditioner is the bomb.com!

How I use it:

Normally, I like to condition with heat under a hood dryer. Applying heat allows the conditioner to penetrate into the hair shaft leaving the hair super-silky smooth. As of late, I have not had the time to sit under the dryer, not even for 30 minutes, so while in the shower, I scrub my scalp with a moisturizing shampoo, and then apply Aussie 3 Minute Miracle ($3.57 @ Target) and let it my hair why I finish showering.

Next, I use a wide-tooth comb to detangle my curls while in the shower. I no longer completely rinse out the conditioner from my hair and doing so eliminates the need to moisturize it again once out of the shower.

Once out of the shower, I towel dry my hair, section it into two parts, and I create two braided pig tails. I allow my hair to completely dry way simply because it’s easier for me.

So there you have it! Needless to say, this conditioner will be in heavy rotation for a while in my current hair washing routine.

Bought it. Tried it. LOVED IT!
